Turdpress, or Why You Should Never use WordPress Again

WordPress is a turd in the pants of the Internet

Top Reasons to Abandon WordPress

  1. Plugins. They suck. They’re also necessary because WordPress is a blog engine first with minimal functionality. Plugins add functionality. Plugins compete with each other. Plugin authors stop updating plugins. Plugins become insecure or unstable. Plugins break your site.
  2. Updates. A lot of WordPress admins don’t perform updates for various reasons, including (but not limited to) outdated plugins that will break or ignorance. Over time WordPress installations become insecure and will eventually be compromised.
  3. Popularity. As the most popular CMS (Content Management System) in the world it has a lot of visibility and a lot of nefarious characters combing through its source code to find ways to break in.
  4. It’s a Blog Engine First. It’s not a full CMS (Content Management System). As such it’s not designed to handle ecommerce or some of the other major features that one would expect a CMS to have. Its ability to edit content is limited out of the box.
  5. Performance. Unless admins know how to tune it properly (i.e. installing plugins to handle caching, etc) WordPress is slow when it gets more than a few visitors at a time. The performance also drops as more content is added and WordPress has to work harder to collate the content.

Additional Note

If a marketing agency says you have to switch to WordPress to get good SEO run away as fast as possible. They don’t know how to do SEO. They know how to use very specific WordPress-based tools.
